Project Description:
Many Chief Consulting Ltd. partnered with the Blackfoot Confederacy Tribal Council to develop a Blackfoot Confederacy Tourism Plan, a strategic roadmap for future Indigenous tourism development. The plan was designed to align with the economic development goals of the four Blackfoot Nations and to support the growth and marketing of Blackfoot Indigenous tourism businesses. The initiative aimed to strengthen community tourism and create opportunities for collective destination development within the Blackfoot Confederacy.

Key Project Tasks:

  • Led the development of the 2019/20 Blackfoot Confederacy Tourism Plan, focusing on community-driven tourism initiatives.

  • Established a Cultural Protection Elders Advisory Group to guide tourism development efforts while preserving cultural integrity.

  • Conducted an inventory of Indigenous tourism businesses and stakeholders, providing recommendations for future initiatives.

  • Transformed the tourism strategy into a funding proposal for the Government of Alberta’s Community and Regional Economic Support Program.

Outcomes:

  • Collaborated with the four Blackfoot Nations to gather insights and input from community leadership on collective tourism development.

  • Secured a $100,000 grant from the Government of Alberta to support the development of a Tourism Investment Development Plan for the Blackfoot Confederacy.

  • Provided a clear strategic direction for the Blackfoot Confederacy to advance tourism initiatives while honoring cultural values and traditions.
